Full Bill

WHEREAS, Carole Williams-Green is the founder of the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Education Center in West Philadelphia.; and

WHEREAS,

Mrs. Williams-Green led a successful multi-decade effort to rehabilitate the historic but abandoned Fairmount Park Police stables in Fairmount Park’s Cobbs Creek section, creating a center to bring environmental education to under-served neighborhoods like her own West Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS,

As former public school teacher and administrator,

she was bothered by the fact that children in West Philadelphia did not have the opportunity to be engaged in outdoor activities. Thus, Mrs. Williams-Green focused her energy on creating an environmental center in Cobbs Creek; and

WHEREAS,

She followed her vision, to create the Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Education Center. She sought out foundations, corporations, elected officials, government agencies, and private citizens to help build the dream of equitable access to science resources. Her efforts have resulted in the creation of a wonderful community center that has had a significant impact on the West Philadelphia Community

; now, therefore

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. The Cobbs Creek Community Environmental Center located at 700 Cobbs Creek Parkway, in the City of Philadelphia as “Carole Williams-Green Community Environmental Education Center”

SECTION 2. Effective Date. This Ordinance shall take effect upon enactment.
