Honoring the life and legacy of Paul "Bud" Franzen for his service to our country, and his dedication to the Roxborough community.

WHEREAS, Paul W. “Bud” Franzen was a stalwart in the Manayunk-Roxborough community, where he lived his whole life; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen attend St. John the Baptist School, then went on to serve in the United States Army in World War II as a Medic in Italy and Northern Africa, where he provided aide to the troops of General George S. Patton; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen went on to marry Lavene Haas and have seven children. He later had 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen’s service did not end upon returning home from war. He went on to spend his time serving his community as Baseball Commissioner for the 21st Ward, including David Montgomery, who remembered him fondly; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen also helped found Immaculate Heart of Mary Roman Catholic Church in Roxborough, and was active with the Roxborough YMCA and 1976 Bicentennial celebration; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen frequently worked for City Councilmembers George Schwartz, Al Pearlman, Ann Land, and Michael Nutter on behalf of the Roxborough community; and

WHEREAS, In his later years, Mr. Franzen worked as a realtor and then as a volunteer for SHARE Food Program through his early 90s; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen was a lifelong Phillies fan and a frequent staple of the sports games of his children and grandchildren, particularly at Mt. St. Joseph Academy where three of his daughters and four of his granddaughters attended; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Franzen is remembered fondly by a large family, who will miss and remember him dearly, and by all members of the community he served; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors the life and legacy of Paul “Bud” Franzen for his service to our country, and his dedication to the Roxborough community.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Paul W. “Bud” Franzen as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
