Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Woodland String Band first marched in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade along Main Street in Macroom, County Cork, Ireland in March 2000; and

WHEREAS, Woodland String Band was invited to Macroom by the Lee Valley Enterprise Board and welcomed by the Macroom Urban District Council which later became the Macroom Town Council and since has been invited back annually; and

WHEREAS, Since that first invitation, the residents of Macroom and the members of the Woodland String Band have developed a strong and deep bond and have come to view each other as more than just mere acquaintances but more like family. The string band has been told that they bring a sense of life and celebration to this small little Munster Town; and

WHEREAS, This year there will be 165 people traveling to Macroom for the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade up from 60 people back in 2000. It is estimated that over the years the Woodland String Band has brought approximately 2,000 people on this journey; and

WHEREAS, This travel has not only been one way. For years now, folks from Macroom have been traveling to Philadelphia to attend the annual Mummers Day Parade as well as vacation in the Philadelphia area during the Summer months; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Woodland String Band’s first trip to march in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade in Macroom, County Cork, Ireland.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Lee Valley Enterprise Board, Macroom St. Patrick’s Day Committee and the People of Macroom as evidence of the admiration and sincere respect of this legislative body.
