Honoring and congratulating the Neumann-Goretti boys basketball team, on their successful 2019-2020 season and overall 24-4 record in the Philadelphia Catholic League boys basketball championships.

Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Neumann Goretti boys basketball team is led by the longtime boys Head Coach, Carl Arrigale; and

WHEREAS, Players Hysier Miller, Che Evans, Hakim Byrd, Masud Stewart, Shawn Battle, Chris Evans, Aamir Hurst, Blaise Vespe, Cameron Young, Jordan Hall, Rashan Locke-Hicks, Bruce Smith, Jordyn DeRito, and Nasir Feggans, showed determination, strength, and skill to become Philadelphia Catholic League champions; and

WHEREAS, The team has ranked first overall in Pennsylvania, 1st in the Pennsylvania Division AAA division, and 1st in Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Neumann Goretti worked to defeat rival teams like Roman Catholic twice, once early in January 77-69 and again in the Catholic League championship, where, after trailing 47-43 early in the fourth quarter, pulled through to win 66-58; and

WHEREAS, Players Senior Cameron Young and Junior Blaise Vespe scored a combined 29 of the 66 points to win the championship game February 24th at the Palestra. Young helped lead the team to a successful season with an average 13.2 points per game, 7.2 average rebounds per game, and 1.5 assists per game. Young began his collegiate basketball career at Bowling Green College this fall and was an integral part of Neumann Goretti’s two-time PIAA Championship titles in 2018 and 2020; and

WHEREAS, The Saints Neumann Goretti school’s mission is, “through a rigorous and varied course of study each individual is presented with the necessary tools to succeed as a lifelong learner,” and has demonstrated, through their core values of compassion, courage, and commitment, to prepare students for an ever changing postgraduate society with a 100% graduation rate and 75% of students going on to attend a 4-year college; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor the Saints of the Neumann-Goretti boys basketball team on their 2019/2020

Philadelphia Catholic League championship win.
