Full Bill

WHEREAS,

George Linwood Myers III, affectionately known as “Geo,” was born on July 9, 1983 and raised in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia. He was born to George Linwood Myers, Jr. and Dr. Roxanne Francine Robinson Myers Contee and the only child of their union

; and

WHEREAS,

Geo was a caring son, grandson, uncle, nephew, stepbrother, and a devoted father to his two children, Manyah and Sincere

; and

WHEREAS, Geo gave his life to Christ at an early age and spent much of his younger years as an active member in various youth groups. While attending Strawberry Mansion for Junior High he received “The Dr. Ruth Hayre Scholarship Fund” Wings to Excellence Award in 1997, Geo went on to graduate from Lamberton High School; and

WHEREAS, Geo had a passion for cutting hair, which led to his enrollment in Empire Beauty School, where he earned his Cosmetology Diploma. Geo worked as a Security Guard at Manion on City Ave, a position he was fiercely proud of as he loved to protect people, especially his family and friends; and

WHEREAS, Geo was a boxing enthusiast and boxed at the James Shuler Gym. Geo was also a strong proponent of gun violence prevention and a mentor to many young black men. Geo would encourage these young men to put down the guns, get in the boxing ring, and put their hands up; and

WHEREAS, Geo tragically passed away on February 15, 2021 due to a senseless act of gun violence; and

WHEREAS, Geo is survived by his children, Manyah and Sincere, his parents, Roxanne and George Jr., his stepparents, Earl and Zina, his stepbrother, Malik, his grandparents, Frenchie and Joyce Robinson and Dolly and George Myers Sr., his favorite aunt, Franchella Simmons, Uncle, Tony Simmons, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and Wynnedfield friends; and

WHEREAS, Geo will forever be remembered as a dedicated and loyal member of his community and a loving and devoted family man; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the legacy and dedicated service of George “Geo” Linwood Myers III to Philadelphia and numerous local organizations is honored and the 2200 block of N. Salford shall henceforth also be known as “Geo L. Myers Way.”

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of George “Geo” Linwood Myers III as evidence of the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
