WHEREAS, Charlie “Uncle Bip” Bernard was an immense influence to Philadelphia politics, with a renowned career that helped to shape the Philadelphia Democratic Party; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bernard was a dedicated public servant, working for the City of Philadelphia for 25 years as a supervisor at the City Commissioner’s Office, as well as for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 5 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bernard went on to serve in a variety of important roles including Political Director of the Democratic City Committee for over 34 years; and
WHEREAS, He dedicated his career to working with the Honorable Bob Brady, the Philadelphia Democratic Party, and the Democratic City Committee; and
WHEREAS, His work in politics never ceased and continued right to the end, culminating in the celebration of his 60th year in Philadelphia this year. Mr. Bernard’s dedication to his work knew no bounds, and he continued to "work the phones" up until his death; and
WHEREAS, His love for his job and the people he served was only surpassed by the love for his family. Mr. Bernard was a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Bernard’s legacy and his impact on Philadelphia will be remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors the life and legacy of Charlie “Uncle Bip” Bernard, Dean of the Philadelphia Democratic Party, Political Director, Chief Moral Officer, and the Grandfather of the Philadelphia Democratic City Committee, for his lifelong dedication to Philadelphia politics.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Charlie “Uncle Bip” Bernard, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
