Proclaiming the Week of May 7, 2021 to May 15, 2021 as the 11th annual Philly Tech Week presented by Comcast, and honoring the broad and vibrant Philadelphia technology community.

WHEREAS, Philadelphia’s technology, innovation and creative communities are again coming together to celebrate their importance to the region’s economy, culture, and future; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia technology community - with leadership from news organization Technical.ly and regional tech association PACT (Philadelphia Alliance for Capital and Technologies) - has again organized a series of events around technology and innovation in Philadelphia called Philly Tech Week (PTW), scheduled from May 7, 2021 to May 15, 2021; and

WHEREAS, The eleventh annual Philly Tech Week (PTW) will kick off with the fourth annual HUE Tech Summit on May 7th from 2 o’clock to 6 o’clock. The summit - designed to educate and empower women of color in the technology sector - will this year focus on the cybersecurity; and

WHEREAS, On May 10 from noon to one o’clock, a “Future of Cities” program, organized by the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, will be held to discuss the future of urban spaces post-pandemic. Featured speakers will include Jody Holton, AICP, Assistant General Manager of Planning and Strategic Initiatives at SEPTA, Jeff Risom, Partner and Chief Innovation Officer at Gehl Architects, and Sean S.H. Wang, President at Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITIR) International Inc.; and

WHEREAS, Other events include the Penn Emerging Startup Showcase, Philly Youth in Tech, Tecnhical.ly Developers Conference, IP Goes Pop! Intellectual Property and Pop Culture Trivia Contest, Introduce a Girl to Tech Workshop, and the Venture for America Philly Founders Panel. WHEREAS, The title sponsor of Philly Tech Week is Comcast NBC Universal and collaborating sponsors include the Philadelphia Department of Commerce, Audacy, Ben Franklin Technology Partners, CGI, Flexential, InvestHK, Pinnacle 21, TD Bank, Tech Elevator, Temple University College of Liberal Arts, the University of Pennsylvania, and Urban Outfitters; and

WHEREAS, The annual Philly Tech Week has developed into great importance to the City’s technology and innovation community for fostering innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurship; and

WHEREAS, The continuation of Philly Tech Week as an annual celebration and gathering of influencers in the technology and innovation sphere furthers Philadelphia’s reputation as an emerging East coast hub of technology and innovation; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it herby proclaims the week of May 7, 2021 to May 15, 2021 as the 11th Annual Philly Tech Week presented by Comcast, and honors the broad and vibrant Philadelphia technology community.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution be presented to representatives of Philly Tech Week, further evidencing of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
