WHEREAS, Cam grew up in North Philadelphia and began singing gospel music at his grandfather’s church, Crossroads Missionary Baptist Church, and on youtube, later performing on the Ellen DeGeneres show as a 12-year-old; and
WHEREAS, Early on, Cam signed a record deal with a subsidiary of Universal Music Group and was invited to sing the National Anthem for President and First Lady Obama in 2014 at the White House Easter Egg Roll; and
WHEREAS, More recently, Cam worked at Warmdaddy’s in South Philadelphia where he gained popularity each appearance on Mister Mann Frisby’s Jam Session performing R&B music before the pandemic; and
WHEREAS, After initial success, Cam felt a plateau in progress, turning to NBC to re-create his sound and momentum on
The Voice

WHEREAS,
The Voice
season began with 40 performers, none of which were able to match Cam’s talent, charisma, and stage presence. Cam gained popularity and through the coaching and support of Blake Shelton, Cam came out on top; and
WHEREAS, Shelton, calling Cam one of the brightest hopefuls of the show’s 20 seasons, knew from the beginning that the success of Cam would persevere until the end of the show and throughout his inevitably long career in the business; and
WHEREAS, Following his win, Cam plans to record quickly to build upon the momentum from the show and to perform live in a musical project, like The Wiz; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor Cam Anthony for winning the 20th season of
The Voice
, $100,000, and his recording contract with Universal Music Group

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Cam Anthony as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
