Full Bill

WHEREAS, The Arts and Culture task force was formed in October 2020 charged it with gathering stakeholders to report on gaps in the City’s efforts in the arts and culture space and to think creatively about how the City can help to sustain, rebuild and grow this major economic and employment engine after the changes wrought by the ongoing pandemic; and

WHEREAS, The Arts and Culture Task Force has formed, completed its report and has even begun to move some of its suggestions into reality including the well received Arts and Culture Recovery Week and the Illuminate the Arts grants; and

WHEREAS, The Arts and Culture Task Force has continued to meet and advocate for issues advanced in its report including, more effective and centralized coordination of the City’s nighttime economy, additional funding for individual artists and small, diverse non-profits and arts and culture focused businesses; and

WHEREAS, The efforts of the arts and culture community to expand in diversity and renew and energize its efforts in communities typically less thought of as arts and culture hotbeds in the city is deserving of a voice and our support; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Global Opportunities and Creative/Innovative Economy hold hearings to receive the report of the Arts and Culture task force, to learn about its findings and the actions thus far taken, and to review the impact of this work on the vital arts and culture sector in the City of Philadelphia.
