Approving the appointment of Seth Bluestein as City Commissioner, to fill out the unexpired term of a vacant seat in the Office of the City Commissioners.
WHEREAS, Al Schmidt was elected at the municipal election in November 2019 to serve as a City Commissioner for the City of Philadelphia, for a term to expire the first Monday in January 2024; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Schmidt has announced he will resign his seat as a Philadelphia City Commissioner, effective in early January 2022; and
WHEREAS, Section 2-112 of The Philadelphia Code provides that “vacancies in the office of City Commissioner shall be filled by appointment of the Mayor with the approval of the Council for the unexpired term of the member causing the vacancy”; and
WHEREAS, Mayor James F. Kenney has nominated Seth Bluestein to fill the vacancy caused by Commissioner Schmidt’s resignation; and
WHEREAS, Seth Bluestein meets the qualifications for serving as a Philadelphia City Commissioner; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPJHIA, That the appointment of Seth Bluestein as a City Commissioner of the City of Philadelphia is hereby approved, to serve in the unexpired term of Al Schmidt until the first Monday in January, 2024.
