Celebrating Author Mollie Elkman and her Children's Book, The House That She Built, on the occasion of Women's History Month.

WHEREAS, Since 1987, Women’s History Month, in conjunction with International Women’s Day, a global celebration of women, has been observed annually in the month of March. The celebration honors the contributions women have made to history, culture, and society; and

WHEREAS, Exposure at an early age to a range of careers encourages children to consider a multitude of options and helps keep them engaged by making a connection between what they’re learning in school and why they’re learning it; and

WHEREAS, The mission of

The House That She Built

is to support workforce development initiatives in home building by generating awareness of the skilled trades to underrepresented communities; and

WHEREAS, Mollie Elkman authored

The House That She Built

to educate young readers about the people and skills that go into building a home. Readers learn about architects, framers, roofers and the many more that contribute their individual skills to build a home; and

WHEREAS, As President and owner of Group Two, a marketing agency for home builders, Mollie Elkman was recently recognized by The National Association of Home Builders as the 2022 Sales & Marketing Professional of the Year; and

WHEREAS,

The House That She Built

was inspired by the team of real women who came together from around the country to build a one-of-a-kind home

.

The home was created and completed by the Utah Home Builders Association’s Professional Women in Building Council of NAHB; and

WHEREAS, Less than 3% of the onsite workforce in housing is women. The project’s goal was to highlight and utilize skilled tradeswomen and women-owned companies for all stages of the project. As momentum and national interest grew, women from all over the country traveled to Utah to contribute; and

WHEREAS, The shortage in skilled trade workers is a growing crisis for the economy.

exposes children and parents to opportunities for a successful career in home building.

explores a path to a prosperous future determined by each unique child and their interests, skills, and goals; now, therefore, be it
