Full Bill

WHEREAS, March 28, 2022 marks 40 years since the Cheyney State College Women's Lady Wolves Basketball Team competed in the historic first NCAA Basketball Division I women's championship game ever; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Wolves are from the only Historically Black College and University (HBCU) to have won a men's or women's NCAA Basketball Division I regional championship and from the only HBCU to have advanced to an NCAA Basketball Division I Final Four; and

WHEREAS, They are also from the only HBCU to have included two members of an NCAA Basketball Division I All-Tournament team; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Wolves were led to the National Championships by Hall of Fame Coach C. Vivian Stringer; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Wolves had an unheard of 23-game winning streak that included victories over such Division I national powerhouses as North Carolina State University, Kansas State University, University of Maryland, and Auburn University; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor

Cheyney State College Lady Wolves on their 40th Anniversary of Historic 1982 NCAA Basketball Division I National Championship Game.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Cheyney State College Lady Wolves, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
