Full Bill

WHEREAS, Philadelphia Police Officers Michael McGady and Matthew Mulholland were responding to a disturbance on the afternoon of March 27, 2022 when they saw smoke billowing from a nearby house; and

WHEREAS, The officers swiftly jumped into action, heading to the home on the 1400 block of Rush Street to assist; and

WHEREAS, Rather than waiting for firefighter and EMT units to arrive, Officers McGady and Mulholland courageously entered the home; and

WHEREAS, The officers encountered a distressed man whose lower body had caught fire; and

WHEREAS, The officers - with the help of the man’s son - removed him from the burning home and assisted his transportation to Temple University Hospital; and

WHEREAS, The man suffered burns to his legs but is expected to make a full recovery; and

WHEREAS, Police Sergeant Ed McLaughlin praised the officers for answering the call of duty despite being out of their element. “You’re always afraid to go into a burning house,” said McLaughlin. “But you know they do what they had to do”; and

WHEREAS, The response from Officers McGady and Mulholland is another reminder of the great risk and sacrifice our men and women of law enforcement undertake each day in service to the public; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and honors Michael McGady and Matthew Mulholland - police officers in the 39th District - for their swift, lifesaving response to a fire in North Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed Copy be presented to Officer Michael McGady, further evidencing the since respect and admiration of this legislative body.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed Copy be presented to Officer Matthew Mulholland, further evidencing the since respect and admiration of this legislative body.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed Copy be presented to the 39th Police District, further evidencing the since respect and admiration of this legislative body.
