Authorizing the Committee on Education to hold hearings regarding the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) regarding their Work Ready Program and concerns about delays in compensation for workers.

WHEREAS, Parents, youth and program providers through the Work Ready Program have expressed concern, specifically over the past summer, with youth enrolled in the Work Ready Program who have gone unpaid or experiencing delays in payment from PYN; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Youth Network will receive about $7.9 million from City and State in fiscal year 2023 for the Work Ready Program; and

WHEREAS, Seven of eight summer program employees were not compensated until after the sixth-week of their summer job through PYN, Work Ready Program according to reporting in the Philadelphia Inquirer; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia youths participating in the PYN, Work Ready Program should be provided with timely and proper compensation for their contribution to the city through work; now, therefore ,be it

RESOLVED, THAT Philadelphia City Council, Hold hearings in the Education Committee on the Philadelphia Youth Network (PYN) regarding their Work Ready Program and concerns about delays in compensation for summer workers.
