Honoring and congratulating Champion of the Week, Jayda Pugliese, for receiving a prestigious fellowship from the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes, for her exemplary work as an educator in and outside of the classroom.

WHEREAS, Jayda Pugliese is a K-8 principal at St. Mary Interparochial School, wherein she has a passion for STEM based learning; and

WHEREAS, The Lowell Milken Center fellowship is a merit-based award for educators in all disciplines who value the importance of teaching respect and understanding through project- based learning and selects exemplary teachers from the United States and around the world; and

WHEREAS, One of eleven educators selected for the 2022 Fellowship, Pugliese was selected to collaborate on projects that discover, develop, and communicate the stories using heroes, while also facilitating national and international professional development and best practices training for schools, districts and universities; and

WHEREAS, Pugliese was the first in her family to graduate from high school before going on to earn a bachelor’s degree in Special Education and Elementary Education and a M.Ed. in TESOL and Literacy while currently she is a doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership and Administration; and

WHEREAS, Pugliese is hearing-impaired and has learned to relate well to students with disabilities and teaches with compassion, empathy and understanding; and

WHEREAS, She has designed accessible instruction from diverse learners, and teaches on the importance of STEM-based technology integration for classrooms, implementing effective leadership and system-wide strategic planning; now therefore be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and congratulate Jayda Pugliese, for receiving a prestigious fellowship from the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes, for her exemplary work as an educator in and outside of the classroom.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Jayda Pugliese further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
