Full Bill

WHEREAS, According to the Office of the City Controller, 57% of shooting victims were under the age of 30 and 7% were younger than 18; and

WHEREAS, Philadelphia youth are continuously being impacted by gun violence yet when determining prevention strategies geared toward them they are absent from the conversations; and

WHEREAS, The Enough is Enough Campaign was created to bring young people into the conversation and the advocacy process aimed at gun violence prevention with a specific focus on high school students; and

WHEREAS, The Enough is Enough campaign steering committee has launched a survey in an effort to collect data on the high school student experience with gun violence and received over 1,300 survey responses; and

WHEREAS, Following the hearing in May, the students presented their findings and solutions while discussing their day-to-day experiences in and out of school related to gun violence; and

WHEREAS, Collaboration and action from decision makers is important in reviewing the data and addressing the findings and potential solutions; and

WHEREAS, Involvement of the committee on education is important in the collaboration effort of EIE in order to work to find potential solutions to gun violence prevention in the City of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it authorizes the Committee on Education to hold hearings to discuss youth experience in schools as a follow-up to the student-led Enough is Enough Anti-Gun Violence Campaign discussed in May 2022.
