WHEREAS, Marvin’s Education Services is a tutoring, substitute teaching, and after-school programming education firm servicing Philadelphia and the tri-state area; and
WHEREAS, Marvin’s Education Services offers professional development and training to educational institutions in the areas of classroom management and practical classroom skills for teachers; and
WHEREAS, The education program is designed to meet the needs of youth in Philadelphia, with special consideration for “cultural sensitivity that [resonates] with inner city experiences”; and
WHEREAS, This Black History Month, M.E.S. is one of the few black owned and led educational institutions in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, M.E.S.’ college preparatory exam tutoring is enabling Philadelphians to get into college, which drastically improves the likelihood of personal success and wealth building; and
WHEREAS, M.E.S. follows the “Freedom School” model of education, which uses public education to liberate communities of color from oppression; and
WHEREAS, The organization’s afterschool programming for grades K-8 provides valuable out-of-school time for students, allowing them to foster relationships with peers and mentors; and
WHEREAS, The work of Marvin Dutton and Marvin’s Education Services is setting a solid foundation for a generation of young Philadelphians; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Honoring and congratulating educator Marvin Dutton, for celebrating his organization Marvin’s Education Services’ 10-year Anniversary servicing the youth of the City of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Marvin Dutton of Marvin’s Education Services, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
