Honoring and congratulating the Champion of the Week, Monica Miraglilo, for the work of her company, Girlbuild, which trains women how to renovate, design, and finance their own home improvement projects.

Full Bill

WHEREAS, Women have historically been excluded from the construction and real estate industries: in 2020, only “10.9 percent of workers in the industry were women” and “39 percent of women and non-binary people consider leaving construction [and other trades]” because they felt they weren’t being taken seriously; and

WHEREAS, Girlbuild was originally founded to provide women with construction clothes that were comfortable, chic and designed for women; and

WHEREAS, Girlbuild was founded on the idea that while men might traditionally be the ones to build properties, “it’s the women in our lives that are often times building not just the families, but the relationships and homes too”; and

WHEREAS, Miraglilo’s vision for Girlbuild is that it will “help both homeowners looking to make a few improvements and women looking to a career in construction and real estate development”; and

WHEREAS, Miraglilo’s education service partners with industry professionals to provide their customers with real world advice derived from experience, helping women enter the industry; and

WHEREAS, Girlbuild partners with Aequo Fund, a $6.2 million fund which seeks to “finance projects by local, undercapitalized developers, including women and people of color, with a bent toward supporting those who are working on affordable housing projects”; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Honoring and congratulating the Champion of the Week,

, for the work of her company Girlbuild, which trains women how to renovate, design, and finance their own home improvement projects.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Monica Miraglilo and Girlbuild, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
