Full Bill

WHEREAS, Local government employees in Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania do the daily work that impacts the lives of each and every resident of the city and state; and

WHEREAS, As our city and state grapple with daily challenges, public servants are the people doing the hard work to mend those issues; and

WHEREAS, Many public servants, like police officers, firefighters, military personnel, and healthcare professionals, respond to the City and Commonwealth’s most pressing and immediate issues; and

WHEREAS, Public servants have a variety of occupations, such as teachers, social workers, bus drivers and rail operators, nurses and doctors, and many other occupations. Each day they provide the diverse services demanded by Pennsylvanians of their government with efficiency and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Without these public servants, the continuity of government and the assurance of democracy would be weakened; and

WHEREAS, Government workers and other public servants do work that often goes largely unnoticed; and

WHEREAS, Public service is a noble profession with many challenges but equally rewarding opportunities; and THEREFOR be it,

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby Recognize and honor the many public servants of the City of Philadelphia and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and declare May 2023 Public Service Month in the City of Philadelphia.
