Full Bill

WHEREAS, María Méndez first discovered Juntos Podemos at the age of 16, seeking what she calls a ‘rope of hope’ during a challenging time in her life, and this Philadelphia immigrant advocacy organization, translating to “Together We Can,” served as that source of hope; and

WHEREAS, Méndez joined the organization as an ambassador in 2020, climbing up the leadership ladder and earning her current position as coordinator of Juntos Podemos; and

WHEREAS, Juntos Podemos original purpose was to help migrants, primarily from Mexico and Central America, to access resources. The work has shifted to developing the communities next leaders, María Méndez taking the lead

WHEREAS, Under María Méndez’s leadership, the focus of Juntos Podemos has evolved beyond traditional voter registration efforts. It has now become a platform for engaging community members in vital discussions that extend beyond the ballot box; and

WHEREAS, María Méndez’s commitment to youth engagement and civic education is not only commendable but vital in today's world, fostering the next generation of informed and active citizens; and

WHEREAS, Méndez’s tireless efforts in the service of Juntos Podemos have not only led to an increase in voter engagement and civic awareness but have also empowered countless young voices in our community, showing them the path to active participation in our government processes: now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor champion of the week María Méndez of Juntos Podemos, on her service and dedication to highlighting youth voices and leading young voters to the polls in Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an engrossed copy be presented to María Méndez of Juntos Podemos, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
