Full Bill
WHEREAS, Jeanette Bavwidinsi was born & raised in Northwest Philadelphia and is a proud product of the School District of Philadelphia, having attended Meredith Elementary in South Philly and Masterman for High School; and
WHEREAS, Bavwidinsi’s mother was an educator for 35+ years with the School District of Philadelphia, instilling in her a deep commitment to youth engagement; and
WHEREAS, Jeanette is no stranger to public service and youth empowerment. Since she was young, she tutored in various public schools, supporting her peers in their academic endeavors. As a college student, she mentored high school students and during the presidential election in 2016, she recruited, led, and trained a cohort of high school girls that registered hundreds of voters, canvassed, and phonebanked; and
WHEREAS, Under Jeanette’s leadership, the Philadelphia Youth Commission and Millennial Advisory Committee advise the Mayor, City Council, School District, and other offices on matters directly affecting young people in Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Jeanette has spearheaded youth civic engagement by engaging voters on key issues ahead of elections, hosted and facilitated conversations about gun violence, and coordinated with other city offices to produce films and other materials that shed light on issues felt by young Philadelphians. The Millennial Advisory Committee and Philadelphia Youth Commission release annual reports on policy and other initiatives facilitated by the Office of Youth Engagement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby congratulate and honor the Champion of the Week, Jeanette Bavwidinsi for her dedication and hard work on behalf of Philadelphia’s young people as the Executive Director for the Office of Youth Engagement.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an engrossed copy be presented to Jeanette Bavwidinsi, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
