Recognizing and congratulating the Champion of the Week, Adrienne Smith, creator of the Blitz Champz football themed card game and trailblazer for women of color in sports and gaming.

Full Bill

WHEREAS, Adrienne Smith is a former professional Women’s football player, principal of Gridiron Queendom, and the cofounder of Blitz Champz, a National Football League themed, card based math and strategy game; and

WHEREAS, Smith is a five-time member of the U.S. women’s national flag football team, a two-time member of the U.S. women’s national tackle football team, and four-time national champion with the Boston Renegades. Smith also operates Gridiron Queendom, which connects women and girls across the country and globe to competitive American football opportunities, which girls have been historically denied access to playing; and

WHEREAS, The game teaches math and strategic thinking skills, packaged in an approachable and relatable way designed to engage children and young teenagers; and

WHEREAS, Smith holds “Blitz Champz Workshops,” fun and educational activities that reinforce math skills for children in grades 3-8. To do this, Adrienne travels around the country to showcase her game; and

WHEREAS, In addition to workshops, Smith provides schools with coloring books, math workbooks, and Social-Emotional Learning workbooks, which hone students’ math and problem solving skills who may need alternative educational needs; and

WHEREAS, BlitzChampz is licensed in every NFL team store and has decks available to represent every child or family’s favorite team; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we recognize and congratulate the Champion of the Week, Adrienne Smith, the creator of the Blitz Champz football themed card game and trailblazer for women of color in sports and gaming.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an engrossed copy be presented to Adrienne Smith, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
