Congratulating the Audenried High School Girls Basketball Team for winning the 2024 Public League Championship.

WHEREAS, On Monday, February 26th, 2024, Universal Audenried Charter School faced off with Imhotep Institute Charter High School in the 2024 Public League Championship; and

WHEREAS, Audenried defeated Imhotep in a hard-fought game, capturing the team’s second consecutive Public League Championship with a 55-49 victory; and

WHEREAS, Junior guard Shayla Smith took home the game’s MVP honors, posting a game-high 37 points and 13 rebounds, while Smith’s fellow guard Senaya Parker also reached double figures with a 13-point effort. These two talented guards led scoring runs that helped to solidify the Rockets’ lead at key moments of the game, while the team’s defense and its patented “Point Breeze press” forced 31 turnovers and stifled Imhotep’s talented offense; and

WHEREAS, The team was led to the championship by coach Kevin Slaughter, who has coached at the school for over 10 years and developed the program into a perennial contender; and

WHEREAS, Audenried fought its way to a 21-5 record, with an undefeated 8-0 record in Public League games, on the road to the team’s second consecutive Public League Championship. With key players returning to the team next year, the Audenried Rockets will be formidable opponents next basketball season; and

WHEREAS, The 2024 Public League Championship is Audenried’s second consecutive Public League title, capping off the team’s dominant performance in Public League play over the last two seasons; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Council hereby congratulates the Audenried High School Girls Basketball Team for winning the 2024 Public League Championship.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the team as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
