WHEREAS, The Lions, led by Head Coach Jason Armstrong, traveled to Baltimore, Maryland to compete in and eventually win their first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Tournament Championship since 1915; and
WHEREAS, The Lions showed a true team effort, with huge contributions from multiple players to secure the narrow 54-51 victory; and
WHEREAS, The Lions were led in scoring in the Championship game by juniors Bakir Cleveland and Ethan Garita, the tournament’s MVP award winner. Garita finished with a stat line of 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, with Bakir finishing with 13 points and 2 steals, shooting a crucial 8 of 10 from the free throw line; and
WHEREAS, The Lion’s junior forward, Peter Sorbet was named MVP of the Tournament for his pivotal play and anchoring the teams’ conservative and calculated defense; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we honor and congratulate the Lincoln University Lions for winning the 2024 CIAA Food Lions Men’s Basketball Tournament Championship.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to the Lincoln University Lions, further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
