Honoring and Congratulating the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. - Pennsylvania Chapter on the occasion of their annual Legislative Day.

WHEREAS, The Coalition of Black Women was formed in New York City in the winter of 1970 when 24 visionary black women, led by Edna Beach met in their homes to discuss the problems, challenges, and opportunities during the 1960s. After founding the Coalition of 100 Black Women, this organization continues to address the root causes of issues that have impacted them. Over the years, they mobilized to become a visible force of influence, promoting gender and racial equity; and

WHEREAS, By 1981, the New York Coalition had over 500 members, and as they gained recognition, they duplicated their mission and vision around the country. On October 24th of that year, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. was formed, and they selected Jewell Jackson McCabe as their first National President; and

WHEREAS, The National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. - Pennsylvania Chapter (NC100BWPA) was chartered in 1981, and 42 progressive women were sworn-in in 1982; and

WHEREAS, this non-profit organization has been advocating on behalf of Black Women and girls for over 40 years in the areas of health, education, economic empowerment, and leadership development; and

WHEREAS, NC100BWPA continues to be a voice and force for gender equity and sociopolitical advancement that drives meaningful change to benefit black women and girls. In addition, NC100BWPA is instrumental in carrying out the goal of the National Coalition to fulfill their vision of seeing black women and girls living in a world where socio-economic inequity does not exist; and

WHEREAS, The members consist of progressive women of African descent who work as change agents whom have recognized various needs in the Philadelphia community and have contributed in many ways, including

advocating for racial and social justice while working towards striving for positive impact in their community. Their commitment to advocacy, empowerment, and advancement is commendable and deeply deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors and congratulates the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. - Pennsylvania Chapter on the occasion of their annual Legislative Day.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc. - Pennsylvania Chapter as a sign of the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
