Full Bill
WHEREAS, Dexter Resta moved to Philadelphia from California with his mother and four younger siblings during his 10th grade school year. Dexter’s loving, tight-knit family has provided him with the foundation for his academic achievement and his future success; and
WHEREAS, After moving to Philadelphia, Dexter’s family settled in South Philadelphia and the young man enrolled at
The Preparatory Charter School of Mathematics, Science, Technology and Careers (Prep Charter High School), where he found a strong, supportive school community that was dedicated to fostering his intellectual curiosity; and
WHEREAS, During his time at Prep Charter, Dexter excelled academically, particularly in math and science classes and Dexter’s stellar academic credentials earned him scholarship offers to several prestigious colleges and universities. From among these offers, Dexter chose to accept a full scholarship to attend Yale University, where he intends to double major in mechanical engineering and economics. When Dexter arrives in New Haven in the fall of 2024, he will be the first Prep Charter graduate to receive a full scholarship to Yale; and
WHEREAS, Dexter intends to further develop his passion for math and science while in college and he plans to work at NASA after completing his studies. With his academic gifts and boundless energy, Dexter is sure to make a lasting impact on the field of space exploration in his future career; and
WHEREAS, Dexter Resta’s acceptance to Yale University with a full scholarship is a momentous achievement for Dexter, the Resta family, the Prep Charter community, and the entire City of Philadelphia. The Council is pleased and proud to join in celebrating Dexter’s accomplishments; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, that the Council hereby honors Dexter Resta for his acceptance to Yale University and recognizes Dexter’s historic achievement as the first Prep Charter High School graduate to earn a full scholarship to Yale.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Dexter Resta as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
