Full Bill

WHEREAS, Pursuant to a court order issued in connection with a settlement reached in

Commonwealth v. AmerisourceBergen Corp.

,

et al.,

244 M.D. 2022 and

Commonwealth v. Johnson & Johnson, et al.,

243 M.D. 2022 (Commonwealth Court, July 12, 2022) (“Order”), the Pennsylvania Opioid Misuse and Addiction Abatement Trust (“the Trust”) has been established; and

WHREAS, The Trust was established to distribute funds delivered to the Commonwealth for the settlement of claims against McKesson Corporation, Cardinal Health, Inc., AmerisourceBergen Corporation, Johnson and Johnson, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Ortho-McNeil-Pharmaceuticals, Inc., and Janssen Pharmaceutica, Inc. for their respective roles in the distribution, manufacture, sale and/or promotion of prescription opioid products, for the purpose of distributing settlement funds for the abatement of opioid misuse and addiction; and

WHEREAS, The Order requires that the Board of Trustees governing the Trust include among its 13 members seven regional trustees, including a regional trustee appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by a majority vote of Council; and

WHEREAS, The Mayor has nominated Tumar Alexander to serve as the City’s regional trustee and has requested Council’s confirmation of that appointment; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED,

BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,

That Council hereby confirms the appointment of Tumar Alexander to serve as the Regional Trustee member of the Pennsylvania Opioid Misuse and Addiction Abatement Trust for the City of Philadelphia.
