Full Bill

WHEREAS, Jeffrey W. Thompson is a native Philadelphian, raised in Germantown, and attended Murrell Dobbins Tech High School; and

WHEREAS, He pursued higher education at Penn State University and earned a B.S. in Emergency Management from Thomas Jefferson University; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Thompson joined the Philadelphia Fire Department (PFD) in 1989 as a member of Cadet Class 162; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished 35-year career, he has held numerous positions within the department, including Firefighter, Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, Executive Chief, Special Investigations Officer, Deputy Fire Commissioner, and 1st Deputy Fire Commissioner; and

WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Fire Department has always been a significant part of Commissioner Thompson's life, following in the footsteps of his father, who retired as a firefighter in 1988 after 25 years of dedicated service; and

WHEREAS, Commissioner Thompson will succeed Acting Commissioner Craig Murphy, overseeing more than 3,000 firefighters and medics, making up one of the City’s largest agencies; and

WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia stands ready to support Commissioner Thompson’s initiatives and to work collaboratively to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and congratulates Fire Commissioner Jeffrey W. Thompson on his appointment.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Commissioner Jeffrey W. Thompson as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body.
