Full Bill

WHEREAS, The democratic process is foundational to our nation, and the integrity of elections relies on the dedication and service of individuals who commit their time and effort to ensuring that elections run smoothly and fairly; and

WHEREAS, The poll workers of Philadelphia play a crucial role in facilitating the electoral process, serving as the frontline representatives of democracy, providing essential support to voters, and ensuring compliance with election laws; and

WHEREAS, Following the events after the 2020 presidential election, poll workers across the United States have faced unprecedented challenges, including heightened political tensions and instances of political violence, which have put their safety at risk while they fulfill their civic duties; and

WHEREAS, These dedicated individuals work tirelessly, often volunteering their time on Election Day and during early voting periods, to assist voters, manage polling locations, and ensure that all citizens can exercise their right to vote in a safe and accessible environment; and

WHEREAS, Poll workers have shown remarkable courage and resilience in the face of intimidation and hostility, exemplifying their commitment to the democratic process and the protection of voters’ rights; and

WHEREAS, Poll workers come from diverse backgrounds and bring a wealth of experience and perspective, reflecting the multicultural aspect of our City and enhancing the electoral process; and

WHEREAS, Their commitment to civic duty, patience, and professionalism helps to instill confidence in our electoral system and fosters a sense of community among voters; and

WHEREAS, Their efforts contribute significantly to the overall success of elections in Philadelphia, and their hard work deserves recognition and gratitude; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes the Philadelphia City Commissioners and the election poll workers in Philadelphia as they play a crucial role in conducting free and fair elections in the United States, acting as the vanguards of democracy.
