Full Bill

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia proudly welcomes Morehouse College and the "Get On The Bus" Initiative, a transformative program that brings Morehouse students to underserved communities to inspire and uplift young men, encouraging them to pursue higher education at Historically Black Colleges and Universities; and

WHEREAS, This initiative in Philadelphia is spearheaded by Councilmember Anthony Phillips and Enon Tabernacle Church, in collaboration with Morehouse College, the Philadelphia Morehouse Alumni Association, and local organizations and businesses, demonstrating a shared commitment to mentorship, education, and community development; and

WHEREAS, Morehouse College was founded in 1867 in Augusta, Georgia, with the mission “To develop men with disciplined minds who will lead lives of leadership and service”; and

WHEREAS, The "Get On The Bus" Initiative, led by the Morehouse Student Government Association, provides mentorship and engagement opportunities to underserved communities through workshops and service projects focused on masculinity, career development, and leadership; and

WHEREAS, From March 13th to March 15th, 2025, the initiative will bring 50 Morehouse students to Philadelphia to connect with underserved youth and foster long-term, impactful relationships; and

WHEREAS, This initiative highlights the critical importance of Black men providing mentorship to youth, serving as positive role models, and inspiring the next generation of leaders. By engaging with young men in underserved communities, the program fosters leadership, academic achievement, and personal growth, reinforcing the significance of representation and support systems in shaping future success; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby welcomes, recognizes, and commends Morehouse College and the "Get On The Bus" Initiative for their dedication to mentorship, leadership, and community empowerment in Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution is presented to representatives of Morehouse College as evidence of the sincere admiration and appreciation of this legislative body.
