WHEREAS, The James Beard Awards recognize exceptional talent and achievement in the culinary arts, hospitality, media and broader food systems. As well as a demonstrated commitment to equity, community, sustainability, and a culture where all can thrive.; and
WHEREAS, The James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards recognize excellence in the culinary arts, food and beverage, and hospitality industries among new and established restaurants and their chefs nationwide; and
WHEREAS, The James Beard Foundation announced its 2025 Restaurant and Chef Awards nominee finalists on April 2, 2025, in advance of the awards ceremony that will take place on June 16, 2025; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia has a rich and diverse history of hospitality, culture and cuisine, with numerous award winning restaurants and bars; and
WHEREAS, Four Philadelphia restaurants and chefs were recognized as finalists for the 2025 James Beard Awards, and Philadelphia was recognized again for its iconic dining scene and top culinary talent with the 2025 list of semifinalists; and
WHEREAS, Phila Lorn of Mawn was named as a finalist for Emerging Chef; Jesse Ito of Royal Sushi & Izakaya and Amanda Shulman of Her Place Supper Club were all named as finalists for Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic; and
WHEREAS, The Lovers Bar at Friday, Saturday, Sunday, owned by Chad and Hanna Williams, was named as a finalist for Outstanding Bar; and
WHEREAS, These chefs and restaurants are being recognized as finalists for one of the nation’s most prestigious culinary honors for their accomplishments in creating exceptional food and beverages, as well as their commitment to community, racial and gender equity, sustainable food systems and building community and culture through food; and
WHEREAS, Philadelphia boasts a vibrant diverse restaurant scene, known for its neighborhood driven culinary experiences, from classic cheesesteaks to innovative fine dining, and a growing emphasis on culture and cuisine; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and congratulates the Philadelphia chefs and restaurants named as finalists for the 2025 James Beard Awards.
