WHEREAS, Ms. Carrie Shelton Crawley (1910-1988) was a beloved resident of West Philadelphia, residing on the 600 block of Pallas Street at 614 Pallas Street, where she raised 11 children and served as a pillar of strength and support for her neighbors; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Crawley dedicated over 35 years as Block Captain in West Philadelphia, earning special citations and awards in recognition of her outstanding leadership, advocacy, and service to her community; and
WHEREAS, Under the Mayor Rizzo administration, Ms. Crawley organized a community lunch program and continuously aided families in need, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of West Philadelphia residents; and
WHEREAS, Although the family home at 614 Pallas Street has since been lost due to fire, the legacy of Ms. Crawley’s service and compassion remains a vital part of the history and spirit of West Philadelphia; now therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby authorizes the renaming of the 600 block of Pallas Street in West Philadelphia to “Crawley Way” in honor of Ms. Carrie Shelton Crawley for her lifelong dedication to community service and leadership.
FUTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the family of Ms. Crawley as an expression of the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body.
