WHEREAS, Jenaye Munford is a proud daughter of Northwest Philadelphia, hailing from the Mt. Airy neighborhood, 19150, where she continues to reside and raise her greatest joy, her daughter, Journey. A proud product of the School District of Philadelphia, Jenaye is a graduate of Central High School, Class 256. She went on to earn her undergraduate degree from Arcadia University and her master’s degree from Drexel University; and
WHEREAS, Jenaye began her long and dedicated career in public service during the administration of Mayor John F. Street, serving as a trusted Special Assistant to the Mayor. In that role, she worked on pivotal initiatives that improved the lives of countless residents and strengthened the institutions that make Philadelphia great; and
WHEREAS, Following her time in the Street Administration, Jenaye continued her public service in both the private sector and the federal government, addressing some of our nation’s most critical issues from affordable housing to the U.S. Census. Her work consistently ensured that every voice was heard and that equity was not just a conversation, but an actionable commitment. Jenaye went on to serve as Chief of Staff in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, where she continued her service to Philadelphia at the state level; and
WHEREAS, Jenaye returned to the City of Philadelphia to serve in City Council under then Council President, the Honorable Darrell L. Clarke, later continuing her leadership under Council President Kenyatta J. Johnson as Director of the Neighborhood Preservation Initiative (NPI). This historic $400 million investment by City Council focuses on expanding and protecting affordable housing, keeping Philadelphians in their homes, improving housing quality, promoting homeownership, and revitalizing neighborhoods through infrastructure improvements such as driveway repairs and alley tree removals; and
WHEREAS, Under Jenaye’s visionary leadership, the NPI now approaching its fifth year has transformed the lives of thousands of Philadelphians. From creating affordable housing for City workers and seniors, to alleviating financial burdens for hardworking homeowners through critical repairs, to strengthening the rental safety net during the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPI stands as one of the most impactful initiatives in City Council’s history, a true legacy of progress, stability, and community investment; and
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and congratulates Jenaye Munford on her nearly twenty years of exemplary service, leadership, and dedication to the people and neighborhoods of Philadelphia. The Council commends her unwavering commitment to public service and wishes her continued success in the years ahead.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Jenaye Munford in recognition of her extraordinary service, steadfast leadership, and lasting contributions to the City of Philadelphia.
