Full text

WHEREAS, Philadelphia has long been home to a vibrant Ukrainian American community that contributes to the cultural, civic, and economic strength of the City; and

WHEREAS, Ukrainian organizations across Philadelphia provide cultural, social, educational, and humanitarian services that preserve Ukrainian heritage while supporting critical community integration and civic engagement; and

WHEREAS, American Community Survey data estimates that more than 13,000 Philadelphia residents report Ukrainian ancestry, representing one of the largest concentrations of Ukrainian residents in Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, The broader Philadelphia region is home to more than 50,000 residents of Ukrainian ancestry and more than 15,000 Ukrainian immigrants, many of whom have helped build and sustain cultural centers, faith institutions, financial institutions, and nonprofit organizations that serve Ukrainian Americans as well as the broader Philadelphia community; and

WHEREAS, Ukrainian organizations in Philadelphia provide critical support to Ukrainian refugees and newly arrived families through housing assistance, employment support, language services, legal navigation, community connection, and employment opportunities; and

WHEREAS, These organizations strengthen Philadelphia by promoting cross cultural understanding, mutual aid, and community resilience that benefits all Philadelphians; and

WHEREAS, Ukrainian cultural institutions, faith-based organizations, nonprofit groups, and

community leaders continue to demonstrate leadership, compassion, and commitment to serving their communities during a heightened time of need; and

WHEREAS, As we mark anniversaries connected to the war in Ukraine, it is important to recognize and uplift organizations that provide stability, cultural preservation, and direct support to impacted families and communities in Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors Ukrainian organizations throughout Philadelphia for their dedication to serving Ukrainian Americans, Ukrainian refugees, and the residents of the City of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That Engrossed copies of this Resolution be presented to Iryna Mazur, Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Philadelphia, and representatives of the Philadelphia Ukrainian community as evidence of the sincere respect and appreciation of this legislative body.
