WHEREAS, Chief Inspector Nicholas Smith has built a distinguished career with the Philadelphia Police Department, serving the people of this City with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to public safety; and

WHEREAS, Chief Inspector Smith has consistently approached policing as a partnership with the community, emphasizing visibility, accessibility, and open communication as cornerstones of effective, equitable, and just law enforcement; and

WHEREAS, As Inspector of the Northwest Patrol Division, Nicholas Smith worked to strengthen trust, collaboration, and safety throughout Northwest Philadelphia, engaging residents, businesses, faith leaders, and community stakeholders as true partners in building safer and more resilient neighborhoods; and

WHEREAS, In May 2025, Nicholas Smith was promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector, reflecting his record of exemplary service, dedicated leadership, and ongoing commitment to innovation, accountability, and community-centered policing; and

WHEREAS, In his current role, Chief Inspector Nicholas Smith serves in a leadership capacity within the Northwest Division of the Philadelphia Police Department, overseeing multiple districts including the 5th, 14th, 35th, and 39th Police Districts and providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and guidance to ensure effective public safety services across diverse communities; and

WHEREAS, Chief Inspector Smith has been widely recognized as a model of principled leadership, exemplifying what it means to serve with both strength and compassion, and setting a standard of fairness, accountability, and respect for the officers under his command; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes Chief Inspector Nicholas Smith for his distinguished service, exemplary leadership, and unwavering dedication to strengthening public safety through meaningful community partnership and extends its sincere gratitude for his continued service to the residents of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Chief Inspector Nicholas Smith as evidence of the sincere respect and appreciation of this legislative body.
