Full Bill

WHEREAS, Tyrone Tony Sims, known as “Cakes,” has devoted decades of service to residents of West and Southwest Philadelphia; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sims has deep roots in Cobbs Creek, where his family settled in 1959 and where he raised his own family; and

WHEREAS, His commitment to public service began following a tragic act of gun violence, leading to decades of community organizing and advocacy; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sims served students in the School District of Philadelphia for approximately 30 years, mentoring generations of young people; and

WHEREAS, He founded Concerned Men of Cobbs Creek and helped establish a youth basketball league that provided structure, mentorship, and violence prevention; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sims has long served as a trusted liaison between residents and law enforcement, strengthening community relationships; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Sims continues his service as a community advisor and mentor, reflecting a lifelong commitment to civic engagement and neighborhood well-being; now therefore

THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS:

SECTION 1. 60th & Baltimore Park is hereby named and designated as “Tyrone ‘Cakes’ Sims Park.”
