WHEREAS, The Council of the City of Philadelphia recognizes that youth sports play a vital role in the development of young people by fostering discipline, teamwork, perseverance, sportsmanship, and leadership, while also strengthening school communities and neighborhood pride; and
WHEREAS, St. Raymond of Penafort Catholic School, located in Philadelphia’s Mt. Airy neighborhood, serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade and is dedicated to nurturing the intellectual, emotional, and spiritual growth of its students in a safe and supportive environment; and
WHEREAS, During the 2025-2026 basketball season, the St. Raymond of Penafort Boys Basketball Team distinguished itself through exceptional performance and determination, capturing the Region 58 Championship with a title-game victory over Gesu; and
WHEREAS, Building on that success, the team went on to win the Archdiocese of Philadelphia Varsity Boys Basketball Championship and was subsequently recognized as the Pennsylvania CYO Boys State Champion, marking a season of extraordinary achievement; and
WHEREAS, These accomplishments reflect not only athletic excellence, but also
the dedication of student-athletes, coaches, families, and supporters whose collective efforts foster growth in confidence, character, and community; and
WHEREAS, Championship teams such as St. Raymond’s inspire younger students, uplift families, and bring honor to their schools and neighborhoods, demonstrating how unity, discipline, and hard work can create lasting pride throughout the City of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby honors and recognizes the St. Raymond of Penafort Boys Basketball Team for its remarkable 2025-2026 season, its championship success, and its positive representation of the Mt. Airy community

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the St. Raymond of Penafort Boys Basketball Team as evidence of the sincere admiration and appreciation of this legislative body for its historic season and its contributions to community pride and youth development.
