WHEREAS,
Gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated at the age of 16, LeBron James was first dubbed ‘The Chosen One” while only a junior in high school at St. Vincent - St. Mary in Akron, Ohio; and
WHEREAS,
LeBron James then joined the National Basketball Association where he played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Los Angeles Lakers, winning a championship with each team he has played for; and
WHEREAS, Over the course of his storied 23-year career LeBron James has amassed four NBA Most Valuable Player Awards, four NBA Championships, four NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Awards, and three Olympic Gold Medals for Team USA; and
WHEREAS, His individual accomplishments include being named a 22-time All Star, 21-time All-NBA player (the most of any player), going to the NBA finals ten times including eight consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, He has shared his success by giving back in the form of the LeBron James Family Foundation, which has funded the renovation of more than 30 Boys & Girls Clubs of America nationwide; and
WHEREAS, As an outspoken activist, he has used his platform to bring attention to issues such as racism, equality, and accountability for police shootings of unarmed individuals; and
WHEREAS, Partnering with other black athletes and artists, he helped start More Than a Vote which combats systemic, racist voter suppression through educating, energizing and protecting the community; and
WHEREAS, On July 24, 2026, LeBron James announced he would be taking his talents to Philadelphia where he can still work, grind and compete for another championship in the City of Brotherly Love; and

This legislative body is excited to welcome LeBron James to the City of Brotherly Love as he takes the court with the Philadelphia 76ers in pursuit of bringing the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy back to Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby welcomes LeBron James to Philadelphia and the Philadelphia 76ers.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to LeBron James as evidence of the sincere appreciation and gratitude of this legislative body.
