WHEREAS,
Reverend Joshua Goodin, the Senior Pastor of St. Paul Chapel Baptist Church in Point Breeze, South Philadelphia, began his journey with spirituality as a child at the Greater St. Matthew Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Steven Avinger; and
WHEREAS, During his time at St. Matthew, he served in many leadership roles - he was both the Pastoral Head of Ministry of Zamar and the Youth Pastor of Chosen Ministries, in addition to the Men, Education, Youth, and Music ministries; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Goodin was ordained as deacon in 2007, licensed to preach in 2008, and eventually ordained as Reverend in 2015. In November 2017, Bishop Goodin was elected the eighth Senior Pastor of St. Paul Chapel Baptist Church, where his leadership has contributed to the growth and advancement of the congregation through new ministries, community initiatives, facility improvements, and the development of church leadership; and
WHEREAS, In 2022, he was elevated to Overseer, and in 2026 he was elevated to the office of Bishop through the New Day Interfaith Fellowship of Churches and Ministries. He now serves as Director of the Pastors and Ministers Division; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Goodin attended West Chester University and Geneva College, earning a Bachelor of Human Services. He is currently pursuing his Master of Divinity, and he remains active in numerous Baptist and faith-based organizations throughout Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, His elevation to the office of Bishop highlights his continued commitment to strengthening individuals, families, churches, and communities through ministry, education, mentorship, workshops, and outreach; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA,
Honors and congratulates Reverend Joshua Goodin on his elevation to the status of Bishop and recognizes his years of ministry and leadership to the South Philadelphia community.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Bishop Joshua Goodin as expression of gratitude by Philadelphia City Council.
