WHEREAS,
Henry “Hank” Gonski, III was born and raised on 4th Street in South Philadelphia to
the late Henry E. Gonski Jr. and Constance "Connie" (nee: Molinari); and
WHEREAS, Known affectionately as "Hank" to family and friends. He graduated from the Mercy Vocational Technical High School in 1989. After graduation, Hank worked for the Carpenters Union, Local 8 before joining the Philadelphia Police Department. His most recent assignment was to the Philadelphia International Airport Unit; and
WHEREAS, Hank served with distinction for 26 years,
earning the confidence and respect of his superiors and colleagues. His record with the Philadelphia Police Department provides ample evidence of his loyalty and dedicated commitment to the Department, this City and all its citizens
. Hank was suddenly and tragically taken away from us far too soon
;
and
WHEREAS, Hank will be remembered for his witty, funny personality and dedication to his family and work; and
WHEREAS, In his free time, Hank enjoyed building model airplanes and woodworking, he was also an avid Star Wars fan who enjoyed collectables. He also enjoyed attending Tea-Parties with his niece, Norri; and
WHEREAS, Hank is survived by numerous family members and will be remembered as loving, caring and generous with a heart of gold, that is how his mother and sister will always remember him
; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby renames 4th Street between Hoffman and Dudley Streets in honor of Henry “Hank” Gonski as a sign of appreciation for his dedication and service to the citizens of Philadelphia.
FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the Gonski family, further evidencing the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body.
