WHEREAS, The Miss Philadelphia Scholarship organization is the oldest-active local competition with the Miss America program,
which is the largest scholarship provider for women in the country; and
WHEREAS, founded in 1921, the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization was one of the eight original contestants in the first Miss America Pageant held in Atlantic City, and has been an essential part of Philadelphia’s civic and cultural history; and
WHEREAS, Beyond pageantry, the Miss Philadelphia experience is rooted in service, leadership, and community engagement in which contestants advocate for charitable causes or their chosen initiatives, serving as ambassadors and role models for the City of Philadelphia; and
WHEREAS, Each year both, Miss Philadelphia and Miss Philadelphia’s Teen make nearly 100 appearances on behalf of charitable organizations and community initiatives, and spread Philadelphia’s values across the Commonwealth as they represent the City in the Miss Pennsylvania and Miss Pennsylvania’s Teen competition; and
WHEREAS, In 2026, the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization celebrates its 105th anniversary, signifying over a century of opportunities for women to develop their leadership skills, pursue higher education, and advocate for important initiatives; and
WHEREAS, For 105 years, the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization and its titleholders have contributed civic service to Philadelphia through volunteerism, advocacy, educational achievement, and leadership, creating a legacy for generations; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors the Miss Philadelphia Scholarship Organization on its 105th Anniversary and extends its profound gratitude for Miss Philadelphia’s enduring contributions to the service, leadership and empowerment of Philadelphia communities.
