WHEREAS, Lieutenant Gregory A. Brown, Sr. has dedicated four decades of his life to public safety, law enforcement, and service to the people of Philadelphia, culminating in an accomplished career with the Philadelphia Police Department; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Brown began his law enforcement career in 1986, serving in Traffic and various District assignments before joining the Mayor’s Security Unit, where he served as an Officer and later as Commanding Officer, providing executive protection and leading security operations for the Mayor of Philadelphia and other official activities; subsequently served in the Criminal Investigation Unit before being promoted to Sergeant in the 9th District, supervising officers and daily public safety operations; and has served in the Philadelphia Police Department’s Crash Investigation Unit since 2012; and

WHEREAS, Lieutenant Brown’s career has been distinguished not only by longevity, but by the breadth and depth of his training and expertise, including Secret Service training, dignitary protection, security detail management, hostage negotiation, firearms training, crisis intervention, counter-terrorism, police supervisory training, FEMA and National Fire Academy training, and specialized investigative training; and

WHEREAS, Prior to his law enforcement service, Lieutenant Brown served his country in the United States Marine Corps at Willow Grove Naval Air Station from 1983 through 1986, bringing to his subsequent career the discipline, leadership, and dedication to duty that characterize military service; and

WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia expresses its profound gratitude for Lieutenant Brown’s four decades of service, sacrifice, professionalism, and dedication to duty; now, therefore,

RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors and recognizes Lieutenant Gregory A. Brown, Sr. upon his retirement from the Philadelphia Police Department, commends him for forty years of exemplary public service, and extends its sincere appreciation for his extraordinary commitment to the safety and security of the people of Philadelphia.

FURTHER RESOLVED, That an engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Lieutenant Gregory A. Brown, Sr. as evidence of the sincere respect, gratitude, and admiration of the City Council of Philadelphia for his distinguished career and dedicated service to the City.
