The enacted ordinance increased Philadelphia’s Fiscal Year 2001 General Fund appropriation by $45 million, from about $2.83 billion to about $2.88 billion. The money was appropriated for a loan to the Philadelphia Gas Works to address a cash-flow crisis, including the purchase of natural gas and payroll obligations, and to help avoid interruption of gas service.

Amending an ordinance approved April 11, 2000 (Bill No. 000005), adopting the Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2001, by making, in accordance with Section 2-301(a) of the Philadelphia Home Rule Charter, certain additional appropriations needed to meet the unanticipated emergency created by a cash flow crisis at the Philadelphia Gas Works.
