VETO OVERRIDDEN

This enacted ordinance adds hearing-protection requirements to Philadelphia’s Health Code for Fire Department members, including firefighters and paramedics. The City must provide ear muffs with communication features for members exposed to noise above 85 decibels while riding or operating fire apparatus or using power tools, unless the protection would create an additional hazard; the Fire Department must also run a program to identify and reduce harmful workplace noise.

Amending Title 6 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Health Code," by adopting certain provisions of the National Fire Protection Association Standard on Fire Department Occupational Safety and Health Program, NFPA 1500, related to hearing protection measures for Firefighters and Paramedics, with amendments thereto, all under certain terms and conditions.
