ORDER THE BILL PLACED ON NEXT WEEK'S SUSPENSION CALENDAR

This lapsed bill would have required people acquiring or transferring firearms in Philadelphia—including bringing a firearm into the city—to apply for and obtain a license from the Philadelphia Police Department, with some exceptions for government agencies, certain dealers, and pawnbrokers. The proposal would have required application information, a $2 transaction fee, approval based on eligibility and firearms-safety knowledge, and an eight-hour safety course or equivalent proof; violations could have led to a fine, imprisonment, or both.

Amending Chapter 10-800 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Safety," by adding a new Section, entitled "Acquisition or Transfer of Firearms," to regulate the acquiring or transferring of any firearm within the City of Philadelphia; all under certain terms and conditions.
