The enacted ordinance adds rules to the Philadelphia Code prohibiting people from owning, using, possessing, or transferring certain assault weapons, other specified weapons, accessories, and ammunition, with exceptions for authorized law-enforcement conduct and certified exemptions. People who legally possessed newly prohibited items before the ordinance took effect had 30 days to remove them from Philadelphia, make them permanently inoperable or otherwise compliant, or surrender them to the Police Department; violations can result in fines of up to $300, up to 90 days in jail, or both.

Amending Section 10-800 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Safety," by adding a new Section 10-821a, entitled "Contraband Weapons, Accessories and Ammunition," providing for the prohibition and registration of certain assault weapons and imposing penalties.
