This enacted ordinance changes Philadelphia’s Fire Code rules for smoke alarms in one- and two-family homes. It allows 10-year, sealed-battery smoke alarms instead of alarms connected to building wiring in certain existing homes, including some built before January 1, 1988, homes without commercial power, and areas undergoing limited repairs; it takes effect three months after enactment.

Amending Title 4 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "The Philadelphia Building Construction and Occupancy Code," by amending Subcode "F" ("The Philadelphia Fire Code"), by modifying a subsection allowing smoke alarms in existing one- and two-family dwellings to be solely battery powered, all under certain terms and conditions.
