The enacted ordinance adds a new chapter establishing protections for uniformed Philadelphia Fire Department personnel who work as fire service paramedics. It treats these paramedics as firemen under Pennsylvania’s Heart and Lung Act and as firefighters under the Pennsylvania Occupational Disease Act for purposes of disability protections.
Amending Title 21 "Miscellaneous", by adding a new Chapter 21-2800, entitled "Fire Service Paramedic Safety and Health," by adopting minimum standards to protect the health, safety and dignity of uniformed Philadelphia Fire Department personnel working as fire service paramedics; all under certain terms and conditions.
