The enacted ordinance adds definitions for electric vehicles and electric vehicle chargers to the Philadelphia Code and creates a permit category for installing chargers on sidewalks. Permits require approval from the Department of Licenses and Inspections, the Department of Streets, and the Art Commission, and charger owners must maintain the equipment, carry liability insurance, repair damage, and remove the charger if directed or if the permit ends.

Amending Chapter 11-600 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Construction, Encroachments And Projections Over, On And Under Streets," by adding definitions for "Electric Vehicle" and "Electric Vehicle Charger" and authorizing a new category of encroachment for which building permits may be obtained entitled, "Electric Vehicle Chargers;" all under certain terms and conditions.
