This enacted ordinance requires chain restaurants with 15 or more locations to place a warning label next to menu items containing 2,300 milligrams or more of sodium, including qualifying items on menus, menu boards, and food tags. Restaurants must also display a warning statement about sodium, blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke; violations may result in fines of up to $500, with compliance required 12 months after the ordinance takes effect and possible extensions of up to six months.
Amending Title 6 of The Philadelphia Code, entitled "Health Code," by adding a new Chapter 6-310, entitled "Sodium Safety Warning Labeling for Chain Restaurants."
